Hi Friendos,
Happy Labor Day!
This week’s Boring Newsletter is late and will be short as I was traveling. I thought I could one small finance technique I used on my trip and also share some photos from my travels.
A few years back, I was worried I would mix up my credit and ATM cards (they looked a lot alike) and accidentally get a cash advance on my credit card when I meant to withdraw from my checking account (this happened to my partner once):

I’ll slap on a “don’t use” label if I am letting a credit card go dormant before canceling it (I usually wait a full billing cycle to make sure no auto charges are still on that account, and cancel after I get a $0 monthly statement). Maybe some people don’t need tricks like that but I do better when I label things so I don’t have to “just remember.”
On this trip I wanted to remember which credit card I had used for the car rental:

I planned the trip several months ago and paid for it with a combination of airline miles, hotel reward points, and cash. We started in Phoenix, Arizona and saw the Desert Botanical Garden:

On the drive to Sedona there were so many saguaros. I learned that a saguaro doesn’t start to branch until it is 50-70 years old and can hold up to 200 gallons of water. I think they are majestic.

I went to Monument Valley in Navajo Nation:

In Moab, Utah there is rock art believed to be 1,000-2,000 years old:

We hiked in Canyonlands National Park and nearby:

On the drive to Salt Lake City, Utah, there were giant windmills:

And then we came home, right at the end of summer.
