My goal is to teach you things you want to know about money. I’d like everyone to think, “I am the sort of person who understands money.”
I started this business because I genuinely enjoy talking and learning about all aspects of personal finance, and other people say I’m a good teacher. I believe a DIY-approach to finance works very well for most people, and having a genuine understanding of your own money situation is the foundation of financial empowerment.
Personal finance can be complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. If you are inclined in this way, but could use a little help getting started, want to know more about a topic or two, or just want to get an informed opinion from someone independent, I might be a good fit for you. I will only accept an engagement if I feel I can truly be helpful. If I don’t think I’m the right fit for something, I will try to help point you to more suitable resources.
April 7, 2020 update: While I originally imagined my services would be offered in-person, I successfully assisted recent clients with online video calls and was impressed with how well it worked. If you are interested in a virtual session, please get in touch!
May 2021 update: Since the pandemic began, I have encouraged clients to utilize a donate-what-you-can option, rather than paying me cash for services. You work with me, and then make a charitable donation to a worthy organization of your choice, in an amount that feels right to you.
December 2021 update: I have decided to permanently change my business model to meet my personal goals for charitable giving. For most clients, I will recommend donations at the level of my regular rates and request that you share with me the organization you chose for your giving and what it means to you. For others, flexibility will be key. I enjoy this work and have found that hearing about my clients giving brings me more joy than the small amount of side income. Since I have a full-time job, I have the luxury of making this choice!
